Dyvonna Inkster, She/Her DONA Certified Labour Doula Still Birthday Loss Doula, Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, BA English, TESL Cell: 780-901-6089 |
I was born and raised on a farm in Northeastern Alberta; a great granddaughter to my Norwegian great-grandparents who began their homestead on that land in 1904. My parents still live and thrive there nearly 120 years later, enjoying the same stunning view overlooking the North Saskatchewan river. I don’t take my connection to the farm or to the land lightly.
I have a very deep love and respect for nature, and I know it’s where my fascination with birth, life cycles and death began. I learned when I was around eight year old that my great grandma had been the rural area’s lay midwife. I recall saying “THAT” is what I wanted to do with my life! After many learnings and experiences, my journey into the world of birth, parenting, grief and loss began in 2009. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of Alberta, a TESL English Language Instructor certificate, and Certifications as a Birth Doula CD(DONA), Loss and Bereavement Doula (SBD), Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE), Early Childhood Education facilitation (Handle with Care, building mental health for children, PCMG, ACES) and Grief Support Facilitation for adults. I’ve taught English as an additional language; supported families in pregnancy, birth, postpartum and early childhood. I’ve also facilitated grief sessions, and held space for couples having to say hello and goodbye to their child over this past decade. By and far, my favourite work has been motherhood. I began that journey in 1999 and have learned and gained more in the past 24 years than all of my other teachings and experiences combined. In a nutshell: I love babies, women, holding space for life transitions, supporting family relationship and the spirituality that comes with birth-life-death…here to love and be loved. |
