In 2016 I became pregnant with my firstborn and invested into myself and my pregnancy with prenatal yoga, a birth education class and hiring my own labour doula through Full Circle Birth Collective. While this helped me feel prepared, our birth had unexpected complications resulting in an emergency cesarean. Heading into postpartum, I found myself faced with PTSD from the birth, postpartum depression/anxiety and breastfeeding complications. With the help of Birth/Postpartum professionals, my family and my partner, I found myself healing and making it through the pain and confusion. To date, I have an unbelievable relationship with my son, as well as myself in part to this experience.
In 2020, just after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I prepared for the birth of my second baby. I took everything I had learned from our first birth, as well as took the time to prepare myself in new ways, as a second time parent. While her birth wasn't free of bumps or hiccups, it was a very healing experience and a perfect Birth Story. Both of my children's births taught me about the transition through pregnancy, labour and birth, like a labyrinth of twists and turns, and how Birth is Transformative as a Right of Passage. My hope for the families I work with is that I can support them through their own personal birth journey. To feel empowered, strong and transformed within their labouring goals. I am honoured to have borne witness as a birth keeper, for many home births, empowered VBACs, medically assisted births and even healing Cesarean births. I am trained as a Mentor and Birth Attendant (Doula), as well as a Childbirth Educator with Birthing from Within®. Along with my Child Development training, I am a Postpartum Doula, have training in Spinning Babies®, and am a certified Yoga teacher, specializing in full spectrum birth yoga (fertility, pregnancy and postpartum), parented yoga and mindfulness coaching. I am trauma-informed as a birth worker, have trained with Jennifer Summerfeldt as a Nervous system Informed Birth Worker, and continue to work with her mentorship. I work hard to be inclusive as a professional and continue to take training around Social Justice in birth work and parenting. My effort is to bring forward and uplift the voices of marginalized and oppressed communities during their pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting experiences. Outside of birth work, I love being around my children, husband and pets. We enjoy playing at local playgrounds, going on walks in nature and climbing in the mountains. At home, I love yoga, crafting and cooking. I also spend a lot of my time to and from births listening to podcasts and audiobooks. |
