Their continuous presence and availability helps parents feel empowered and supported throughout the process.

  • Postpartum doulas provide physical, emotional, and informational support as you welcome new little ones into your family. This can begin prenatally with help making a postpartum plan, setting up your home for baby’s arrival or stocking your freezer. Once baby/babies arrive postpartum doulas provide information about newborn care & care for the postpartum body, emotional support, and practical help with meals and light housework. The needs of every family is different.

  • Research from Evidence Based Birth® and the Cochrane Review confirms that doula support leads to improved birth outcomes. Studies show that having a doula present during labour is linked to a 39% decrease in the risk of a cesarean birth, a 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth, and a 10% decrease in the use of pain medication. Additionally, those with continuous doula support report greater satisfaction with their birth experience, lower rates of postpartum depression, and improved bonding with their baby. Unlike hospital staff, doulas provide uninterrupted, one-on-one support, which research highlights as a key factor in better birth outcomes. There are no known risks to having a doula, making their presence a valuable and evidence-based choice for expectant parents. (Source: Evidence Based Birth®, Cochrane Review)

  • No, doulas do not provide medical advice. Doulas offer emotional, physical, and informational support, but they do not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or make medical decisions. Instead, they help families understand their options, provide evidence-based resources, and encourage open communication with healthcare providers to ensure informed decision-making.
