Our educational classes and doula mentorship programs use the green bottle sliding scale model to price our courses equitably, making them accessible while honouring the value of our work. Inspired by the model developed by Alexis J. Cunningfolk, this approach is rooted in trust, accountability and economic justice. We acknowledge the diverse financial realities that shape access to education and strive to create pricing structures that support both our community and sustainability.

Understanding Our Sliding Scale Pricing

We believe that education and support should be accessible to all families—regardless of financial circumstances. That’s why we offer our classes on a sliding scale. Here’s a quick breakdown of what that means:

  • Pay-It-Forward Rate
    This price is slightly above the standard rate. When you choose this option, you’re helping fund doula training scholarships and making future free or low-cost educational classes possible. It’s a beautiful way to support not only your own learning, but other families in our community, too.

  • Standard Rate
    This is the true cost of the class or program—it reflects the value of the materials, preparation, and time that goes into offering this experience. If you’re able to pay this rate, thank you! It helps sustain our work.

  • Reduced Rate
    This option is for those who can meet their basic needs, but may not have much left over. Paying this rate might feel like a bit of a stretch, but it won’t put you into financial hardship.

  • Community Rate
    For those experiencing financial strain or having difficulty meeting basic needs. We understand that investing in a class or your education like this can be significant—and we’re honoured to support you however we can.

What fits you?

  • Basic needs include, food, housing and transportation, expendable income might mean you are able to buy a coffee or tea at a shop, go to the movies or concert, buy new clothes and similar items per month.

  • When considering this sliding scale framework for our programs, we invite you to choose a rate that feels right for your situation and also honours the time, energy, and care we bring to this work. Choosing the higher end of the scale helps keep our work sustainable, while also allowing others in the community—who may only be able to pay at the lower end—to still access the support they need. In this way, those with more financial flexibility help create a more equitable and caring community for everyone.
