Our lives are marked by physical transitions: menstruation, motherhood and menopause. Entering menopause, with its fluid starting and ending points, can be very confusing and isolating, packed with physical symptoms, emotional turmoil and social stigma.

Not knowing whether you are actually in menopause, what to expect from the experience, how to manage the mountain of symptoms and adjusting to the new life phase -  are struggles we all face.  Menopause management can be a complex subject for those who are experiencing one or a variety of symptoms.

Some of the best solutions may require medical diagnosis, while others can begin with noninvasive changes such as diet and exercise.

As universal as the menopause experience is, until very recently there has been very little education, research and support available to women.

Popular culture has made a caricature of menopause as consisting of mood swings, hot flashes, decreased sex drive and hormone replacement therapy. But a new way of considering and experiencing menopause is emerging: as a fulsome, rich and rewarding period in our lives;  with an emphasis on empowering and affirmative lifestyle shifts that come with being a post-childbearing woman.

Menopause doulas offer - emotional support, one-on-one client education, care plans, referrals and support for self-advocacy with follow up. Our Menopause Doula, Tracey Howell also offers small group workshops in all aspects of menopause, including premature, surgical  and induced menopause.
